The agreement for the Sutter County Sheriff to provide services to the City of Live Oak must be renegotiated immediately or cancelled. The county receives only 80% of what it costs to service Live Oak. That results in a $2.5 million hit to the county budget. In District 5, we pay 100% for our law enforcement services and have excessively long response times (+19 minutes!) in many areas. Live Oak pays 80% and has 9-minute response times. This is unacceptable and warrants immediate action. I give Sheriff Barnes a lot of credit for his work on this. But we need more people to engage and have his back. This is one way that we can reverse the $1.9 million cut to the Sheriff’s budget.
